Nutrition for optimal health

Today, science and medicine have brought unprecedented understanding of the underlying patterns of disease and health. What we know has grown so much, in fact, that a new field of medicine has emerged to help address the need for doctors, hospitals, and clinics to receive training and provide services to the public.

Lifestyle medicine is a new field that is showing the links between simple lifestyle choices and activities and human health and disease.

So what can the average person do to adopt habits researchers show can prevent and even reverse a number of chronic diseases?

Start here:

  • Add more movement into each day

  • Add 15 minutes of meditation or mindfulness practice daily

  • Add at least 3 of these to each meal:

dark greens, blueberries or raspberries, cruciferous veggies, beans (legumes), seeds, turmeric, ginger (see Michael Greger, MD's How Not To Die book for the science behind these recommendations)
